The Moscow Society of Investigators of Nature

What is this? Casual investigation suggests it could be an odd translation. Certainly there is a Moscow Society of Naturalists, which celebrated its 200th anniversary in 2005. Might that be it? Possibly. But Google also reveals a Moscow Society of Nature Investigators, and a Moscow Society of Investigators of Nature. Those two absolutely have to be variant translations, and the latter was founded in 1804. Which means, I suspect, that the Moscow Society of Naturalists is the Moscow Society of Investigators of Nature.

Someone possessed of no Russian should surely never have set out on this journey.
